Not a Coincidence #AtoZChallenge Day 14

“Your day is a bag of coincidences. You are at the peak of your creative energy . Just channelize it and the day is yours to conquer.  Romance is looking up for those who are married . Professionally , you would enjoy appreciation from all corners. Bright yellow is your colour today . ”

She re-read her horoscope a third time.

Great so the Pisces who are married , good for you. And the Pisces who are working, good for you too. And Pisces who  are creative – which is essentially all of – just another day for you. But the single women appearing for an interview , yet to start their stellar professional career – nope nothing for you.

And yellow ! really ? She wondered if the horoscope writers were high on something or perhaps they just detested the single , not yet working Pisces too much & this was their way of getting back.

“Do you plan to sit here and just read the horoscope section all day ? perhaps going out there and actually appearing for the interview might help?” Her brother was poking fun at her. He didn’t need a horoscope to make his day better. Their daily bickering covered his entertainment quota.

“Yeah alright  , am going , am going. ” She hurriedly picked up her satchel and hugged her mom goodbye.

“Break a leg” her brother called after her ” not literally of course ” he giggled & she smirked before stepping out of the door.

For the next 20 minutes though she was waiting on the street thereafter trying to get a cab.

I need a car. and of course to buy that , I need a job” She fidgeted nervously.  Another ten minutes and she’d be out of the race before she even reached the Architecture firm that after constant chasing had given her a chance to present her portfolio.

She literally jumped in front of the next cab that came in to stop it and got inside.

Not A Coincidence

Four eyes looked at her as if she was an escaped convict.

“Um ,  listen I need to reach this place like right now. It’s a life or death situation” She spoke like a desperate political leader asking voters to elect him for another term when the first one was hardly of any consequence.  The co passenger looked at the piece of paper with the address .

“Fine , we’ll drop you there.” said the rightful inhabitant of the cab now held hostage by her.

She could sense the guy wanted to make small talk as she caught him trying to sneak a peak at her portfolio folder . She finally divulged that she was an interior designer , running late for an interview for her dream job.

As she was getting off , he wished her luck and said , “do let me know if you get the job.I live two floors above yours in the same building” he added , “and even if you don’t you could pick up a temp assignment by setting up my home. I’ve moved in recently and can certainly use some help”.

She tried her best not to look guilt ridden.

“Oh you were trying to get off at the building , darn!

“Yes I was but you didn’t even let me utter a word before you took over the cab like president’s rule, anyway , good co incidence that it was my cab you jumped in and not some serial killer’s”  he laughed.

They said good byes and she continued to walk towards the office building , with a big yellow board that read out her future office address.

Creativity put to good use . Personal life looking up . Now let’s conquer the professional space . Yellow is my favorite colour. But , there’s nothing like a co-incidence in my book.

Sometimes one needs to improvise on the daily predictions she thought as she stepped in the elevator.

  1. Really a weird situation! And all the while, she thought that the guy wanted to make small-talk with her! 😀
And was it just a coincidence that the cab was yellow, and she reached the office safely, and in time for the interview 😉
Good going Chandni, and have a great Sunday 🙂

  2. It’s interesting to note the play of ‘yellow color’ in the story. And the twist about who the co-passenger turns out to be was simply superb 🙂
