Time to make a wish? #AtoZChallenge Day 21

She looked around her and saw people everywhere.

She just needed a little solace. But unfortunately , that’s the only thing she couldn’t get , how much ever she wished.

Wish is such a weird word. Everyone makes  them , without any clue how sometimes only when they are fulfilled do you realize the difference between what you think you want and what you get may be two ends of a river that never meet.

Her thoughts went back to the college girl this one time who wanted plain straight black hair coz her mad , fizzy , unkempt hair were such a curse.’ I wish I had hair like yours , such long beautiful tresses’ that pretty , petite little thing had dreamily looked at her as they chatted in the metro.

I wonder if she is happier now. The hair do seem a little high maintenance , she mused as she tried to tie her mad crazy frizzy unkempt hair yet again.

“Hi , How are you ? I have seen you working out in the park lately . So motivating . ” Gushed someone besides her , breaking her reverie. Quick introductions were suggested.

“I am Jeanie” . She said with a smile glancing over the stranger who had just plonked herself on the park bench besides her and was already switching gears from polite conversation to a heart-to-heart. She got those vibes again. She knew this lady needed her help.

Today is our lucky day , she thought.

“Oh such a pretty name , you study? I used to work but now am a stay at home mom” The stranger pointed  at the toddler giggling in the pram parked besides her. Jeanie nodded in affirmation as the lady spilled the story of her life in graphic detail. How the love marriage turned into a loveless marriage. Once college sweethearts , all that was left was bitterness and loneliness in their lives . How her husband was always travelling leaving her to take care of their almost 1 year old all by her self.

They were fast approaching that moment. The moment when Jeanie would get her cue.

And almost reading her mind , the lady turned to Jeanie and said  “You know what would be wonderful?Turning back life a couple of years . You are so lucky – being a student is the best time of one’s life. I can see you’d be quite a stunner once you lose a couple of those kilos ” She paused for a second almost to get the right words & carried on “I would love to swap lives with you!”

The wish was made.

As you wish . Jeanie blinked as the stranger in a second went from looking at Jeanie to looking at her own self eye to eye , face to face , as if in a trance.

Jeanie , walked away from the park bench towards the toddler playing in front of her , dragging the pram along.

The idea of loneliness , finally , so refreshing. I have a really good feeling about this one.  The cherubic kid in her arms said ‘Mama’ looking at her with big brown eyes .

What a blessing this wish has turned out to be.

As she went to the parking lot & drove away to her new home & new life , she mentally gave a pat on her back for the day’s accomplishment yet mused again .

That’s another happy girl out there with her wish fulfilled , But why men never ask for wishes  though , are their lives so perfect?

Maybe she should spend some more time in their company to know what men want. She had heard how that was a tough terrain for wish – granting.

  1. She came to fulfil another lady wishes and got her own wishes done .
    That’s nice suspense
Plus yes men never disclose so we must spend time with them and know their wishes but I also have a guess man do no think deep most of times .
    They live the moment.

  2. That was one awesome fantasy lady! It kind of creeped me out too! Imagine if at the blink of an eyelid your wish was granted? Think well what you wish for…never know when they may be fulfilled!

  3. The mad, fizzy, unkempt hair got me hooked! I wonder if her hairstyle changed too, along with her life 😉
We often wish for things that we don’t really need, or wouldn’t be able to handle once received. The second paragraph is such a beautiful explanation!
And the story is fab <3

All the best for the last six days of the challenge! 🙂

    1. Thank you 🙂 I cant wait to see the stories that are yet to be written come alive myself . Essentially coz I have zero clue about what I would write for the remaining letters ..

  4. The letter U brings me to your blog for the first time during the #Challenge. I grew up at a time when the Disney song, When you Wish Upon a Star, was easily memorized and remembered to this day. I think of the saying, “Wishing doesn’t make it so.” I love the fact that late in my senior years, I still have the ability to wish. I’m glad. While you have been busy, I wrote about hotels and inns, the architecture and architects, the setting in the community. If you have time or interest, there is still time to join me. Hope to see you. Cheers.

    1. Thanks Stephany ..I do remember visiting you during the theme reveal.. but somewhere in the mad frenzy that the month was got lost somehow.. let me find my way back to your blog.. soon?
